In Search of Ausfood Aims

What is the aim of this blog?

The aim of this blog is simple.

Prompted by the oft-heard cry "We should support Australian farmers", a cry invariably followed by dire predictions of what will befall agriculture and food availability in this country if no action is taken, I decided to take a few small steps towards one person investigating and attempting to remedy the situation.

The ground work and the initial investigation will take place through 2013.  In 2014  there will be ten days set aside each month,  where as close as possible to 100% Australian food and beverages will appear on the daily menu.

What factors will be used in deciding acceptable identification for Australian grown produce?

The following factors will be used:

Australian food labelling laws will be used as a guide.

All food and beverages consumed and purchased in shops will have to be labelled appropriately; in the case of fresh produce or meat/fish/poultry it must be clearly identified in the place of purchase as Australian. Other purchases from farmers' markets and roadside stalls and domestic gardens will be identified accordingly.

What will people learn when they read this blog?

The first thing they will learn is the sad fact that I am a rubbish typist and can't proof read to save my life.

Anything else that might directly relate to Australian produced food?

Interested persons can work their way through the labels and in this way may find items of interest.

Will there be enough information to suit most people?

I am not here to spoon feed people. However anyone interested enough in running to earth a particular product may find it among the aforementioned labels.  The Ausfood search is a two-way street.  I am happy to be on the receiving end of any information regarding  products that I am having a hard time finding.
